(March 4, 2025) S1P Therapeutics Inc is excited that our groundbreaking research in developing drugs for the treatment of kidney and autoimmune diseases has again been awarded a prestigious Virginia Catalyst grant. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our exceptional team, who have tirelessly pursued innovations that have the potential to improve the lives of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients. Blocking Spns2-dependent S1P transport is a novel therapeutic target for kidney disease. In collaboration with Prof. Webster Santos at Virginia Tech and Prof. Kevin Lynch at the University of Virginia, S1P Therapeutics will use the Catalyst funding to progress our experimental drugs towards the clinic. AKI is afflicts nearly one-third patients undergoing cardiac surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass and is a risk factor for developing CKD, which is a progressive deterioration of renal function that afflicts 37 million people in the US but many individuals in the early stages of CKD go undiagnosed. We are uniquely positioned to address these challenges and are committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of kidney disease patients.
